Unthinking masses threaten disaster for America

Two letters published yesterday are really disturbing. Readers will be aware of JC Wilcox’s admiration for Donald Trump, very well expressed in many letters. However, Wilcox errs when he claims it is derogatory to say Trump’s popularity is built on the support of uneducated blue-collar workers. This is a fact. 

To support the braggart Trump – whose lunatic policies include building a wall along the Mexican border, heavy duties on Chinese imports and bullying other countries into submission in the style of Vladimir Putin – you have to be simple-minded. You have to be seduced by easy slogans like “Make America great again” and unable to analyse his policies or understand the world we live in. People who can think will not support the disaster-for-America that is Trump. 

Meanwhile Clara Holzer’s letter shows a profound lack of understanding with its claim that the US is on the same militaristic level as China and Russia, two dictatorships in all but name. Does Holzer know nothing about world history?
