Trump’s steep road to the White House

Everyone is acting as though it’s so amazing that Donald Trump seems certain to be the Republican nominee for president. But let’s put things into perspective.

Only 3.5 per cent of the American population voted for him in state caucuses. Even taking into consideration that many Americans are too young to vote, that is still an extremely small percentage. In a country that has a history of slavery, racial segregation and genocide against its indigenous people, is it so surprising that there is still a small percentage of ignorant, white, male, racist bullies who constitute the majority of Trump supporters?
The Democrats almost have a lock on 240 electoral-college votes and need 270 to win. For Trump to get elected, he’d have to completely unify the Republican Party and make significant inroads into the women and minority votes.
It’s not going to happen. And I’ll stake my reputation on that.
