Follow Ariya’s footsteps, Prayut tells youth

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha lavished praise on Ariya Jutanugarn’s breakthrough triumph on LPGA Tour, urging local youths to follow in her footsteps by training hard for success.

According to Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd, the government spokesperson, Ariya’s victory left the premier enthused by her exploits to clinch a maiden success on the most lucrative women’s tour after suffering several near misses.
“The premier said it is the ‘golden year’ for Thai athletes. They’ve brought happiness and made fellow compatriots ecstatic in many sports. More importantly, the world gets to know more about the country in another aspect, not just being a ‘land of smiles’ or a nation with rich cultural heritage.
“He wished Ariya and other Thai athletes enjoy further success and also wanted them to be the role models for Thai youths as well as positive image of the country.
“The prime minister exhorted the young generation to have strong determination in order to achieve success in the future. They should take opportunity from the government’s policy to reduce school time and find out whether they have particular interest in anything, which possibly could be sports. The school would be ready to support them,” said Sansern.
