Khon video captured Thai ways perfectly

Re: “Khon video red-flagged”, News, September 23.

The Culture Ministry’s demand that significant cuts be made to a music video promoting Thai tourism by depicting a character from the Ramakien on a bicycle and jet-ski has met with severe public criticism.
The ministry should realise that khon is just a form of performing art, that art is a product of creativity and that creativity in art varies according to the individual. Depicting khon in a different way, as in a more contemporary setting, should not be discouraged as long as there is no indecency involved.
Thailand needs fresh ways to show the world its culture and everyday way of life. This particular video has shown it all, and rather perfectly. The government should look at this matter in a more compromising, even accommodating manner.
