City Hall must halt runaway gravy train

City Hall must halt runaway gravy train

Re: “Corruption, laziness play a big role in BMA governance”, Letters, yesterday.

Vint Chavala is correct to highlight the current nonsense surrounding the case of a certain hotel in Soi Ruamrudee. Having been ordered to reduce the height of the building, “they continue doing business as if nothing has happened”, he points out. Of course, this is not the only “illicit” hotel construction resulting from a thick buttering-up of BMA officials. Sadly, many infringements never come to light because so many obstacles get placed in the way of investigation.
It is often said “the streets are paved with gold”. But in this case it is more suitable to assert that “the walls of certain Bangkok hotels have been cheaply decorated with used brown envelopes (and papered over with gold leaf)”!
