If CNN is so bad, then why watch it?

John Arnone (Letters, 10 December) in keeping with certain other self-regarding and equally Pooterish entities writing nonsense in these pages, and for whom getting published in a local newspaper represents the acme of their literary abilities, informs us that certain identified CNN personalities are, he implies, UK citizens.

In this, he infers that Kristie (the correct spelling of her name) Lu Stout, (born: Philadelphia) John Vause (Australian) are similarly identified. If that’s not what was actually meant, he should try to be more professionally accurate. Besides, his venomous and perceptibly fatuous prejudices against CNN’s employees are entirely subjective, and as far as I and doubtless many others are concerned, of no merit whatsoever.
Moreover, if he can't grasp why CNN and many other, similarly reputable channels employ British journalists, he really should try to figure it out. Also, and given his extensive knowledge and subsequent vilification of the channel in question, one wonders quite why he appears to spend so much time watching it.
But – if you don't like CNN Arnone, then don't watch it. Simple.
He then compounds his ignorance by advocating UBC to ‘give us’ that by-word for professional probity and balanced reporting, the (Australian born) Rupert Murdoch-owned, risible Fox News. Good grief; you couldn’t invent it. This stable also includes the Murdoch-owned, scandal-ridden UK tabloids The Sun, and the now disgraced and defunct News of the World. Strange bedfellows, indeed.
