Visits by US Vice President Mike Pence to Germany last Saturday and to Brussels on Monday, to ease EU members’ worries over US foreign policy, say much about how President Donald Trump has already put the world on edge after only one month in office.
Though he takes great relish in verbally attacking and embarrassing other people, the president himself is a very thin-skinned person who detests criticism from anyone.
Since his inauguration there have been demonstrations around the world against Trump’s policy against Muslims and his ideas to “make America great again” – which risk upsetting the global order and peace.
Trump has not ventured abroad yet in his capacity as president, and doubts remain over whether he can do so without facing serious protests.
He could turn out to be the least-travelled US president of the post-war era.
