I don’t know where Simon Ordsall finds his “facts”, but he is talking through his euro hat.
The UK is not a declining economy. It is the fourth- or fifth-largest economy in the world – depending upon which measurements are used – and has been so for many years. With Germany, it is the only expanding economy in the European Union. The EU itself is a contracting and failing economy, and even pro-EU economists predict its euro currency will implode by 2020 unless major changes are made now.
The EU is a dictatorship. Technically an oligarchy, a dictatorship ruled by a committee of non-elected, unaccountable and un-dismissable commissioners and their bureaucrats in Brussels. Whistleblowers and critics are summarily sacked. It has five non-elected sitting presidents!
The EU is corrupt. Its accounts have not been “signed off” by its independent accountants for a quarter of a century because of the missing billions of pounds.
Further, the EU parliament is not actually a parliament, since all its members are of the same “European” party. There must be an opposition/alternative government to constitute a parliament. And that is unlikely to ever occur because, under the Treaty of Lisbon, it is illegal within the EU for citizens to criticise the EU or any EU organisation.
Those are the facts, Mr Ordsall.
To conclude with your Leicester City football club analogy, now that the club has sacked its European manager, it is once more climbing up the English Premiership table under its replacement British manager.
