Maejo goes organic

Buoyed by the success of its pilot market project last month, Maejo University in Chiang Mai is launching a weekend market called “Kad Maejo 2477.”

Buoyed by the success of its pilot market project last month, Maejo University in Chiang Mai is launching a weekend market called “Kad Maejo 2477.”
    Starting today, the market will be held every week and offers a space for farmers and gardeners to sell their produce direct to consumers, All products are organic or pesticide-free and come at a reasonable price.
    Three zones are provided in the market: Kad Mua will be the place for local food and the products from growers who are part of the university's research network. Students planting vegetables to help with their tuition fees will sell cooked food made from their products in this zone as well.
    The second zone is a community network and home to organic products from farmers who have acquired knowledge about organic and pesticide-free growing from the university.
    The third zone is the organic zone selling vegetables, fruit and meat and other produce grown or raised by the university’s staff and students.
    The market opens at 9am at the Organic Dome, Wang Sai field in the university grounds.
