Prayut will rub shoulders with the great and bad at White House

Re: “Prayut accepts Trump’s invitation to White House”, Front page, May 2.

Thai pride in PM General Prayut’s invitation to the White House must surely be diminished by the knowledge that he will be in questionable company. Other current and potential invitees include such stellar specimens of our species as Rodrigo Duterte and Kim Jong-un, both the very creme-de-la-creme of world politics. Recep Tayyip Erdogan is sure to join this elite club soon, and Adolf Hitler, if he could only be resurrected, would certainly add lustre to the roster. Too bad Muammar Gadhafi, Saddam Hussein, Attila the Hun and Count Dracula are no longer with us. The Trumparium would fairly glow with the influx of prestige.
On another topic, I hope that readers have noticed from recent TV clips that Li’l Jong has acquired a new wardrobe. It includes a snazzy black Mao suit and an equally snazzy black Western suit, both sporting what look like pinstripes. Li’l Jong must have gotten a really good deal on pinstriped material. Can a pin-striped Mao suit symbolise an effort to synthesise communist and capitalist ideologies on a sartorial plane? Can we call it juche in pinstripes? Stay tuned.
