Let’s hope 25th Amendment rear-ends Trump, before he unleashes real terror

Right, enough is enough; time to take the gloves off.

There are a number of increasingly frightened people in Washington, the wider US, and indeed abroad. The object of this fear is, of course, Donald Trump.
Leaving aside all the lies, insults, conspiracies, assaults verbal and physical, we have here a “fire and fury” man who wants to vastly increase the US nuclear weapons inventory, reversing decades of ICBM and warhead reduction and limitation measures (SALT 1 and 2; START 1 and 2, etc) designed to militate against an increasingly alarming arms race between, primarily, the US and the then-USSR.
Moreover, we now find ourselves in a situation whereby a putative nuclear first-strike is not totally outside the bounds of contemplation; in this respect, the likes of Generals Mattis and McMaster, and John Kelly, have a crucial role in reining in an increasingly detached Trump. If these fellows join a lengthening list of former White House employees, one can only wonder who will be able to keep Trump’s hands off the football.
What’s to be done? Steve Bannon, another former employee, explains that Trump had no idea what the 25th Amendment is (it’s the provision by which a majority of the Cabinet can vote to remove the president). In this context, he allegedly rates the chances of the “president” lasting a full term at about 30 per cent. Now there’s optimism for you.  Let’s all hope that the above-mentioned 25th is exercised – the US, and the world, have enough to deal with without the increased threat of possible global thermonuclear war.
With regard to contributors to this column, we have among our number persons who wilfully cock a snook at reality, either because they think supporting a Tillerson-esque “mucking foron” (sic) is cool or they, too, are nut jobs. A bit of both, perhaps. Get with the programme, gentlemen; if you think that the incumbent is rational and you advocate his lunacy, you ought to try teaching tap-dancing to jellyfish.
