Berlin Philharmonic arrives with Mahler’s Fifth

Berlin Philharmonic arrives with Mahler’s Fifth

Mahidol University’s College of Music will host the Berliner Philharmoniker on November 9, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel with selections including Leonard Bernstein’s “Divertimento for Orchestra” and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No 5.

The Berlin Philharmonic is one of the world’s most elite ensembles. Known for its beautiful tone, creative colours and commitment to high standard of artistry, it will perform Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, one of the world’s most beloved works of its kind.
“You forget that time has passed,” the Berlin Philharmonic’s long-time conductor, Herbert von Karajan, once said about this piece.
“A great performance of the Fifth is a transforming experience. The fantastic finale almost forces you to hold your breath.”
Only 37, Gustavo Dudamel is already one of the world’s most recognisable conductors. Born in Venezuela, he is the artistic director of the LA Philharmonic and a frequent guest conductor around the world.
Dudamel is motivated by a profound belief in music’s power to unite and inspire. As a companion piece to the Mahler symphony, Dudamel has chosen Bernstein’s “Divertimento”.
Seats cost Bt3,000 to Bt20,000 at www.ThaiTicketMajor.com and (02) 262 3456.
