Re: “US Syria pullout will have wide ramifications”, Opinion and Analysis, December 21

Critics of US President Donald Trump have many nicknames for him, and one of the latest is “Disrupter in Chief”.
That’s because Trump changes important policies via Twitter – instead of using formal procedures or proper governmental protocol.
The latest is Trump ordering, via Twitter, the withdrawal of US forces from Syria. Critics are saying Trump has been using his presidential powers the wrong way.
They say Trump should have studied how the Syria problem materialised in the first place – before deciding what should be done to safeguard US interests, preserving the global power structure and maintaining peace in the area.
Even former US president John Kennedy, who was 25 years younger than Trump when he took office, had the following magic words as his mantra: “Do not take down a wall until you know why it was put up.”
That is why some people also call Trump “Toddler in Chief” – in concert with “Baby Trump” balloon that was floated in London and Paris recently.
