A few facts to remedy the rising anti-Islam fever

A few facts to remedy the rising anti-Islam fever

Re: “Britain not so ‘great’ anymore”, Have Your Say, May 18.

The British political firebrand Tommy Robinson is not, as JC Wilcox claims, facing a retrial in July for alleged comments aimed at a Muslim gang rapist, but for filming people outside a law court and broadcasting the footage, thus breaching reporting restrictions. It is claimed by the authorities that Robinson’s actions endangered the due process of law, and amounted to contempt of court.
Wilcox is also wrong to claim that it is illegal in Britain to criticise Islam. Indeed, the British government has recently rejected a proposed definition of the exceedingly dubious term “Islamophobia” partly on the grounds that it might impact on freedom of speech. Britain is indeed still the home of justice.
