Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said Monday that his government accepted the decision made by the European Commission to extend the yellow card for unsolved illegal fishing for another six months.

“They have not yet upgrade us, but extended (yellow card status) for another six months. Maintaining the same position is fine, as the problems have been accumulating for long time,” he said. “This government just came to take the job and we in all out cooperate with all relevant agencies to tackle the problems,” he said.
The European Commission announced on Saturday that it has put Thailand on formal notice for not taking sufficient measures in the international fight against illegal fishing (IUU).
In the same announcement, the commission acknowledged that two fishing nations, Korea and the Philippines, have carried out appropriate reforms of their legal systems and are now equipped to tackle illegal fishing.
