Silk textile brand Reunmaii unveiled what it calls the “world's first” jacket and jeans made of silk on Monday.

Krittika Pakdeerat, manager of the Ruenmaii Baimon textile shop in Surin's Muang district, presented the unique outfit made of organic indigo-dyed silk yarns woven with linen at the Thong Tharin Hotel on Monday.
The family business, established in 1987, has joined the Surin silkworm-raising settlement to set up a “golden silk” yarn-manufacturing factory to revive the profession and promote Thai silk products, Krittika said.
The shop collaborated with the provincial commerce office to develop silk textile products for international customers, she said.
This year, the shop produced “silk jeans” made of densely-woven fabric compared to conventional jeans made of cotton denim.
Showing the prototype silk jeans jacket and pants, which looks just like denim fabric but is softer to wear, Krittika said the shop has successfully produced the fabric on an experimental basis and there are no bulk sales at the moment. However, the shop welcomes individual orders and the price of fabric is expected to be less than Bt2,000 per metre, she added.
