Policy to cope with ageing society delayed
A national policy for dealing with an ageing population demographic has yet to be fully prepared, State Audit Office chief Prajuck Boonyoung, said on Monday
.
The National Plan for Senior Citizens still lacks integrated operations from all government agencies involved. Even basic paperwork under the Plan is poorly organized, making access to the entire database or acquiring individual documents almost impossible, he added.
Despite a large number of meetings and seminars organized for government agencies, officials appear to be poorly informed and unable to effectively undertake their tasks.
The Plan has achieved little progress at the provincial level with only a very few progress reports from the provinces submitted to the central government, he said.
The overall progress of the Plan should have reached its third stage but only the second Plan covering the period (2002-2021) has been completed, Prajuck said.
As a result of all delays and setbacks, the State Audit Office has submitted a report along with suggestions to all government agencies, asking them to submit a progress and problems report within 60 days.
