Chon Buri defence service boss takes the blame on himself over savage punching

Chon Buri defence service boss takes the blame on himself over savage punching

The chief of civil defence services in Chon Buri’s Muang district has issued an apology on August 29 for an incident caught on CCTV showing a wounded street racer being punched savagely on his hospital bed by a defence volunteer.

Prakasit Sueksongkhram also apologised to the director and medical staff at Burapha University Hospital for the attack.

The volunteer was reportedly enraged by the fact that the unnamed motorcyclist had refused to stop when signalled and sped through the security checkpoint, running over his supervisor Kwanchai Changlek, 57. The impact caused both of Kwanchai’s legs to break and sustained severe brain damage.

Meanwhile, Kwanchai’s wife Anongnart said she had not told her husband that the motorcyclist has not been charged for speeding and injuring Kwanchai, adding: “I’m worried that he may not be able to accept that, which could worsen his condition.”

The volunteer was caught on CCTV landing several punches on the wounded teenager. The volunteer has reportedly been identified by his alias “Lek Bang Saen”.

Kwanchai has been working with the civil defence service for seven years, while the attacker for one year.
