Bruneian teacher wins Princess Maha Chakri Award

Bruneian national Noorliah binti Aspar, the principal of Sekolah Rendah Lambak Kanan Jalan 49, yesterday received the Princess Maha Chakri Award in recognition for her professional work in mentoring.

She received the award from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre in Bangkok.

Noorliah is a passionate and dedicated teacher, having been in the education sector for 32 years.

Aside from her role as principal at Sekolah Rendah Lambak Kanan Jalan 49, Noorliah has worked in various capacities including mentoring and coaching other teachers to deliver expected outcomes for effective and impactful teaching and learning.

In 2018, Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah bestowed her with The Most Blessed Order of Setia Negara Brunei.

The Princess Maha Chakri Award is given for teachers’ contributions and outstanding achievements. It aims to promote excellent practices to inspire and serve as examples for other teachers in Southeast Asia.

The award is given once every two years to recognise teachers who change students’ lives, particularly the disadvantaged groups.

The 11 award recipients from each of the Asean countries and Timor-Leste each received a medal, a certificate of honour, an honorary brooch and a cheque for US$10,000 (Bt300,000) for their contribution to education.
