The Ministry of Interior has produced and distributed 274,923 pieces of fabric face masks to the general public to help prevent the spread of the new coronavirus (Covid-19), Government Spokeswoman Narumon Pinyosinwat said on Wednesday (March 11).

“The ministry has organised a training course for 200,100 volunteers to teach local people to make fabric masks, as well as distributed free masks to those who are unable to make their own,” she added.
The campaign is a result of the Cabinet’s resolution on March 3 to provide a substitute to sanitary face masks that are short in supply in the market by assigning the Ministry of Interior to coordinate with over 7,000 district administration offices nationwide to train volunteers in mask making.
The campaign aims to make 50 million fabric masks in total and distribute to people in rural areas to protect themselves against germs and pollution. “Furthermore, it will teach people how to make quality face masks according to Ministry of Public Health’s standard for their own use in the future instead of relying on face mask supply in the market,” she added.
