Investors urged to watch capital inflows as baht rises

The baht on Friday (April 10) opened at Bt32.71 to the US dollar, strengthening from Thursday’s close of Bt32.82.

The baht on Friday would move between Bt32.60 and Bt32.80 per US dollar, said Jitipol Puksamatanan, head of Markets Strategy at SCB Securities.
On Thursday night, the S&P 500 rose by 1.4 per cent, after the Fed expanded its financial policy to cover all companies and bonds, which have been impacted by the Covid-19 crisis.
In the financial market, all policies pressured high yields and government bonds of Latin American countries to fall by 30 to 60 basis points.
Furthermore, the dollar weakened by 0.7 per cent, compared to other main currencies. However, the dollar strengthened on Friday morning, as crude oil price fell after Oil and Petroleum Exporting Countries failed to reach a short-term agreement on production cuts at Thursday’s meeting.
The baht and other Asian currencies would be supported by the Fed’s financial policies in the next phase. The SCB strategist advised investors to monitor the capital that will flow into the Asian region.
