Wild elephants guided back into sanctuary forest

Wild elephants guided back into sanctuary forest

Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary officials and a team of volunteers in Chachoengsao province chased 30 wild elephants back into the forest on Monday after they had a delightful time gorging themselves on farmers' crops.

More than 50 people gathered to solve the problem of the pachyderms ravaging agricultural zones again after they successfully "ousted" about 60 elephants from residential areas.
Sanctuary assistant head Anek Wongsa explicitly instructed everyone to be careful not to hurt the elephants since they could be stressed and become aggressive toward humans.
Chasing the elephants back into the sanctuary was a very risky task and required several hours as the team had to “pry” the animals away from the crops, while the herd moved slowly, Anek said.
The team had to spend all night controlling the elephants so that they did not wander from the path.
The sanctuary has now prepared food and water in order to solve the problem of elephants going into plantations to seek food.
