Si Sa Ket has suspended its religious ceremonies, including “Bun Bang Fai”, or the rocket festival, to contain the spread of Covid-19, Governor Wattana Phutthachat said today (May 5).

He explained that every year the rocket festival is held in the northeastern provinces from April 20 to May 20, when people light rockets to ask Mother Nature for ample rainfall.
“Many provinces have announced that they are suspending religious ceremonies as the government has extended the State of Emergency until May 31,” Wattana said.
“Therefore, we would like to ask all parties to suspend the organisation of annual festivals, including the rocket festival, to reduce the risk of people gathering and contracting Covid-19,” he added.
