Ministry marshals agencies to assist residents in 7 provinces hit by thunderstorms

The Interior Ministry’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has mobilised various agencies to provide residents in seven provinces much-needed assistance including roof tiles and materials to repair damaged houses after thunderstorms and gusty winds wreaked havoc.

Department director-general Monton Sudprasert said the seven provinces are Phayao, Nan, Lamphun, Bueng Kan, Surin, Sisaket and Nakhon Ratchasima. They were hit by the storms and strong winds on Sunday and today (May 11).
The damages occurred in 21 districts, 47 sub-districts and 117 villages. Some 764 houses were damaged. The situation in all provinces is being resolved.
Thunderstorms are expected until May 13 due to a high-pressure system from China, which will extend to upper Thailand as southerly and southeasterly winds prevail over the area, the Thai Meteorological Department said.
The department forecast on Monday that hot to very hot weather with thunderstorms, gusty winds and hail will likely occur in the North, the Northeast, the Central region and the East.
