Five new Covid-19 cases in state quarantine; all Rayong, Bangkok tests negative so far

Thailand saw five new confirmed Covid-19 cases in state quarantine without any deaths in the past 24 hours, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, reported today (July 21) – the 57th day without any domestic case.

The five latest cases were a feverish male student who returned from Japan, three asymptomatic male students who came back home from Egypt and an asymptomatic man from Sudan.
Meanwhile, nine patients have fully recovered and been discharged in the past 24 hours.

After the cases of an infected Egyptian soldier in Rayong and a girl of a Sudanese diplomat’s family who tested positive for the virus in Bangkok, Rayong has tested 6,780 people and Bangkok 364 people. All test results returned negative. Meanwhile, all schools in Rayong have opened after being closed for a few days.

As of today, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country stands at 3,255 (318 found in state quarantine). Of these, 96 are under treatment, 3,096 have recovered and been discharged and 58 have died.

Globally, the number of confirmed cases is 14.8 million, an increase of 210,000 in the last 24 hours. Some 8.9 million people have recovered while 618,000 have died.

Thailand dropped two places to 102 in the tally of virus cases in the world. The US remained number one, with 3.96 million cases, followed by Brazil (2.1 million) and India (1.1 million).
