Mae Hong Son hit with highest number of dengue cases

Government agencies in Mae Hong Son were instructed to put in place measures to curb the spread of dengue fever after the province recorded the highest number of dengue fever cases in the upper North.

Mae Hong Son hit with highest number of dengue cases On Friday (July 24), Mae Hong Son governor Suwaphong Kitiphatphibun told district chiefs, Provincial Administrative Organisation and Subdistrict Administrative Organisation chief executives, village headmen, and village health volunteers to take measures to prevent and contain the spread of dengue fever. So far, Mae Hong Son has recorded 576 dengue fever cases and one death. The patients were mostly found in Mae Sariang district, followed by Muang Mae Hong Son and Sop Moei districts.

Mae Hong Son hit with highest number of dengue cases Dr Supachai Bunamphan, a provincial public health doctor, has called on people to eliminate mosquito-breeding sites by keeping their homes clean, disposing garbage regularly, keeping water storage containers covered and changing water in pots or vases once every week.

“People are advised to use mosquito repellent and sleep under a mosquito net to protect themselves from dengue fever as well as Zika and Chikungunya viruses,” he said.

Mae Hong Son hit with highest number of dengue cases He said there is a rising number of dengue fever cases because mosquitoes can lay up to 200 eggs at a time.

“Though related agencies have been spraying mosquito repellent in many risky areas, we have found that mosquitoes have developed a resistance to the chemicals,” he added.
