Energy Ministry puts agencies on alert to tackle impact from 'Noul'

Agencies and subsidiaries of the Ministry of Energy have been told to monitor for unexpected situations and damage caused by tropical storm "Noul", Energy Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow said.

The minister explained that the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) had been assigned to monitor the situation around the clock, and provide facilities in emergency cases, such as reserve electric poles. Also, Egat staff were ready to generate electricity and maintain power plants.
Relevant officials have been told to check dams in the North and Northeast, so as to ensure that electricity could be generated continuously without problem or obstruction. Besides, survival bags have been prepared for storm victims, the minister added.
Meanwhile, PTT Oil and Retail Business' measure will ensure that underground fuel tanks are protected and checked, and PTT fuel will not be contaminated.
Supattanapong added that provincial energy officials across the nation have advised locals to protect their electronic facilities, namely solar cells or parabola domes.
On Saturday, the Thailand Meteorological Department reported that the category 3 tropical storm “Noul”, which made landfall in Mukdahan province on Friday afternoon, has been downgraded to a tropical depression in Khon Kaen province.
