Bryde’s whale and calf spotted off Surat Thani again

Bryde’s whale and calf spotted off Surat Thani again

A female Bryde's whale and her calf appeared in Surat Thani’s Mu Koh Ang Thong National Marine Park this morning, treating observers to one of the most spectacular sights that the ocean has to offer.

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation said the colossal sea mammals were spotted cruising near the islands of Ko Rok and Ko Hin Taek.

The mother whale measured an estimated 8 metres in length and the calf about 6 metres. Department officials said the whales were probably the same ones spotted previously in late February.

Agencies have asked local fishermen and tourism businesses to avoid disturbing the animals.
