Thong Lor entertainment venues to shutter over latest outbreak

Entertainment venues will be closed to tackle a fresh outbreak of infections in Bangkok and nearby areas, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said on Monday.

The CCSA reported 194 new infections on Monday, including 87 cases in and around Bangkok. Twelve people tested positive in quarantine facilities, while the youngest case in the cluster today was 5 months old.

Of the total, 69 cases were linked to entertainment venues – 45 in Bangkok, nine in Samut Prakan, seven in Chonburi, two in Nonthaburi, two in Chumphon, and one each in Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Sa Kaew and Pathum Thani.

As of Saturday, the cluster linked with entertainment venues totalled 71 cases. Most of these (40) were linked to entertainment venues in Bangkok’s Thong Lor area.

The CCSA said the affected entertainment venues tend be closed for two weeks. If the situation grows more severe, the entertainment venues would be closed by area or throughout provinces, it added.
