Preliminary reports indicated four deaths and multiple injuries after a student opened fire inside Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district on Friday morning (August 7), prompting a large police operation and the evacuation of students and staff.

Initial information identified the suspect as a Mathayom 3 student. Gunfire was reported inside the school between about 9.30am and 9.50am, after which emergency medical and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene.

Police subsequently sealed off the building while teachers and staff moved students to safety. The Arintaraj 26 special operations unit was later brought in as officers searched the premises. The unit is a specialist tactical unit of the Royal Thai Police.

By about 11am, police had received a report that the student suspect had died inside the school.

  • 9.30-9.50am: Gunfire was reported inside Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district. Initial reports identified the suspected gunman as a student and indicated deaths and injuries. Rescue and emergency medical teams began heading to the school.
     
  • 10am: Pol Col Phasakorn Chaithaweewong, superintendent of Plai Bang Police Station, confirmed that an incident had occurred. Officers from the station and Nonthaburi provincial special operations units sealed off the building and asked members of the public not to livestream the police response. 
     
  • 10.15am: Teachers and school staff began evacuating students from the building to safer areas outside the school. Rescue workers transported injured people to nearby hospitals.
     
  • 10.30-10.45am: Arintaraj 26 officers and patrol police moved further into the area as they searched for the student suspect. The prime minister ordered a deputy interior minister to travel to the scene to follow the situation.
     
  • About 11am: Police received a report that the student suspect had died inside the school.

The incident remained an active investigation, with authorities expected to establish the final casualty figures and circumstances surrounding the shooting.
