Thailand sweep Indonesia to reach Asian Games volleyball semi-finals

The women’s volleyball tournament at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 is being held in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, from September 16 to 22, 2026.
Thailand, the 2026 Asian champions and qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games, entered the quarter-finals as Pool C winners.
The world No. 13 side had beaten Mongolia 3-0, Kyrgyzstan 3-0 and Chinese Taipei 3-0 before facing Indonesia, ranked 53rd in the world and runners-up in Pool A.
Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, known as ‘Coach Aod’, fielded his strongest starting six: Pornpun Guedpard (captain), Thatdao Nuekjang, Kaewkalaya Kamulthala, Pimpichaya Kokram, Sasipaporn Janthawisut and Chatchu-On Moksri, with Kalyarat Khamwong as libero.
In the first set, Thailand attacked from the outset, with Sasipaporn putting them 10-5 ahead.
Indonesia fought hard but also made attacking errors, while Thailand controlled the set both in attack and blocking.
Chatchu-On’s spike extended the lead to 19-8 before Sasipaporn, Pimpichaya and Kaewkalaya combined to secure a 25-10 win and give Thailand a 1-0 lead.
Indonesia adjusted their tactics in the second set and took advantage as Thailand visibly eased off, moving 9-3 ahead before extending the lead to 12-4.
Thailand introduced Natthanicha Jaisaen and Ajcharaporn Kongyot but could not turn the set around.
Indonesia’s strong defence helped them pull 14-5 clear.
Thailand then brought on Warisara Seetaloed but still trailed 17-5, before Indonesia stretched the gap to 19-6.
Warisara scored off the block to cut the deficit to 20-11, while Thatdao’s block brought Thailand to within 20-15.
Thailand then closed to 21-18 and 23-22, but Indonesia reached set point at 24-22. Pimpichaya’s tip levelled the score at 24-24.
After four deuces, Thailand completed the comeback with a 29-27 win to lead 2-0.
Thailand began the third set confidently, with Pimpichaya serving an ace to open a 6-2 lead.
Thatdao’s block made it 10-7, and another block from her sent Thailand 16-9 ahead.
Indonesia continued to battle and reduced the deficit to 17-11 before Kaewkalaya tipped the ball into their court to make it 20-11.
Thailand introduced Natthanicha and Warisara, with Indonesia closing to 22-14.
Kanyarat scored with a quick slide attack to make it 23-14 before Warisara sealed the match with a spike for a 25-16 win.
Thailand won 3-0, with set scores of 25-10, 29-27 and 25-16, to reach the semi-finals without dropping a set in the tournament.
They will face the winner of Vietnam and China, who were also scheduled to play on Sunday (September 20, 2026), in the semi-finals on Monday (September 21, 2026).
