Thirteen crew were rescued and seven remained missing after a fishing boat sank in rough seas off Sattahip, Chonburi, on September 22.
A fishing boat carrying around 20 crew sank in rough seas off eastern Thailand on Tuesday (September 22), leaving seven people missing while around 13 others were rescued, according to initial reports.
The vessel was reported to have gone down after being hit by storm conditions and strong waves in waters about four hours’ sailing from Chong Samae San in Sattahip district, Chonburi.
Seven crew remain missing after boat sinks
Initial reports put the number of people aboard the fishing boat at around 20. Rescue teams had brought approximately 13 crew members to safety, while another seven remained unaccounted for.
The fate of the missing crew was not immediately known, and search operations were continuing in difficult sea conditions.
Navy and local fishing boats join search
The Royal Thai Navy’s First Naval Area Command, together with fishing communities around Chong Samae San and nearby areas, deployed vessels to search for the missing crew and assist those affected.
Rescue teams were racing against time as strong waves continued in the area. Officials were also working to bring the vessel back towards shore.
Authorities had not yet released the names of those involved. Further information on the search operation and the identities of the crew was expected as the situation developed.
