Thailand warns of high tides and upstream floodwater from September 29 to October 4, putting riverside areas in eight provinces at risks

Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) has warned Bangkok and seven provinces to prepare for possible riverside flooding during six days of high tides from September 29 to October 4, 2026, as floodwater from upstream adds to rising river levels. The warning covers Chachoengsao, Samut Prakan, Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom and Samut Songkhram.
Four rivers face rising water levels
ONWR identified riverside areas along the Bang Pakong, Chao Phraya, Tha Chin and Mae Klong rivers as being at risk during the high-tide period.
A fairly strong south-west monsoon continues to prevail over the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, strengthening winds and waves, according to ONWR.
ONWR warned that floodwater flowing down from the upper reaches of the river basins would add to the volume downstream, raising river levels and potentially inundating nearby communities.
Unprotected communities and three roads on watch
ONWR called for particular vigilance in communities outside flood embankments and areas without permanent flood defences. Rising water could also affect sections of Sukhumvit Road, Suksawat Road and Rama II Road.
ONWR has asked relevant agencies in the eight areas to monitor conditions closely and prepare response measures.
Residents living beside rivers and in low-lying areas are advised to follow water-level updates, prepare to move belongings to higher ground and plan their journeys in case rising water or river overflows affect their communities.
