Khlong Thom Centre closes until safety checks complete
The fire-damaged Bangkok shopping centre will remain closed while its structure is assessed and more than 300 traders seek assistance
Khlong Thom Centre in Bangkok has closed until further notice after a major fire damaged the building’s structure and internal systems, prompting safety inspections before traders and customers can return.
The fire broke out late on Friday (August 28, 2026) at the shopping centre on Worachak Road, a hub for electrical equipment and general merchandise, causing extensive damage to shops and the building.
The centre announced the temporary closure on Saturday, saying operations would remain suspended while the stability of the structure and the safety of its systems were examined.
Management said the closure was necessary to protect employees, shop operators and members of the public. It apologised for the inconvenience and thanked customers and traders for their messages of support following the fire.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and other agencies have established a co-ordination and damage-reporting centre at Wat Phra Phiren, opposite Khlong Thom Centre.
Operators from more than 300 affected stalls can register at the centre, confirm their identities, have their lease agreements checked and receive assistance with insurance claims.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by forensic police, while officials have yet to complete their assessment of the total damage.

Fire flared up again inside Khlong Thom Centre in Bangkok on Saturday afternoon (August 29, 2026), following a major blaze that extensively damaged the shopping complex the previous night.
The Rama 199 Radio Centre said the 199 emergency hotline received a report of the renewed fire at 2.45pm. The incident was reported inside the centre on Worachak Road in Pom Prap subdistrict, Pom Prap Sattru Phai district.
The flare-up came after Khlong Thom Centre announced that it had suspended operations until further notice because the fire had damaged the building’s structure and internal systems.
