Their Majesties have closely observed the unfolding crisis and previously commanded that a formal royal message of condolence be conveyed to the President of Nepal on behalf of the Thai people.

The humanitarian initiative reflects the close ties of friendship between the two nations, continuing a tradition of bilateral assistance that notably included medical equipment and essential provisions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Nepal disaster unfolded on 26 August 2026, when a massive debris avalanche and slope failure in the northern border region triggered catastrophic flash flooding down Himalayan river valleys.

Torrents of mud, water, and debris surged through northern districts, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and surrounding areas. The calamity caused extensive destruction, washing away critical transport routes, bridges, power infrastructure, and entire settlements.
