Nissan to bring new e-POWER system to United States with Rogue hybrid

The Rogue sport utility vehicle (SUV), which accounts for about 30% of Nissan Motor Co.’s automobile sales in the United States, will become the major Japanese carmaker’s first model in the country to use its e-POWER hybrid system.
Nissan said on Monday (September 21) that the hybrid SUV would be launched shortly.
The planned debut comes as US demand for hybrids grows amid higher petrol prices and the declining popularity of electric vehicles.
The conventional e-POWER system had been considered ill-suited to the market because fuel efficiency tended to fall on long, high-speed journeys.
The Rogue will instead use the third-generation system, which offers improved fuel economy at higher speeds and quieter operation.
A sister model of the X-Trail SUV sold in Japan, the Rogue hybrid starts at US$35,490.
Production is handled by Nissan Motor Kyushu Co. in Fukuoka Prefecture, south-western Japan.
