  • The event marked the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and the NYSE.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on September 24, 2026, and witnessed the signing of an agreement aimed at helping Thai companies access global investors and capital.

The memorandum of understanding was signed between the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and the NYSE. Anutin joined the opening-bell ceremony at 9.30am New York time, becoming the third Thai prime minister to participate, according to the government’s account.

Anutin used the appearance to showcase Thailand’s investment potential and readiness to international investors, supporting the government’s effort to attract overseas investment.

Agreement aims to widen access to global investors

Government spokesperson Ekkapob Pianpises said cooperation between the SET and the NYSE was intended to connect Thai companies with international investors and funding sources, supporting capital raising, business expansion and cross-border investment.

Ekkapob said the partnership would also give foreign investors greater exposure to Thai companies and emerging industries, helping attract capital, technology and new investment into Thailand.

Closer market ties target investment and jobs

Anutin viewed the memorandum as more than an agreement between two exchanges, Ekkapob said. The prime minister regarded it as a reflection of strong and growing economic ties between Thailand and the United States, bringing their capital markets closer together.

The government highlighted the United States’ position as one of Thailand’s most important economic partners and New York’s role as a global financial centre. Closer cooperation between the SET and the NYSE was expected to create opportunities for companies and investors in both countries, strengthen market connections and encourage cross-border investment.

The government described the signing as an important step towards turning that potential into practical cooperation.

“The prime minister wants to turn interest from global investors into real economic opportunities, including investment, business expansion and job creation, so that the benefits reach the Thai people,” Ekkapob said.
