CAAT warns heavy rain may disrupt travel to Bangkok airports and delay flights
CAAT advises passengers using Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports to allow extra travel time as flooding and poor weather affect roads and flight schedules.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has advised passengers travelling through Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports during the period of persistent heavy rain to plan ahead and allow more time than usual to reach the terminals.
Continuous rainfall has caused flooding in several parts of Bangkok and surrounding provinces, affecting traffic and access to both airports.
At the same time, adverse weather conditions may affect flight operations, causing delays or requiring airlines to adjust schedules depending on conditions.
CAAT advised passengers to check their flight status through their airline’s official channels before leaving for the airport and to closely monitor updates while the weather remains unsettled.
Travellers should allow extra journey time, avoid flooded routes and consider using rail-based public transport where available to reduce the risk of arriving at the airport too late.
Passenger rights remain in force
For flights delayed or cancelled because of adverse weather, airlines are still required to assist passengers in accordance with the rights and conditions set out under Civil Aviation Board Regulation No. 101.
Depending on the circumstances, assistance may include food and beverages, communication facilities, alternative travel arrangements or fare refunds.
CAAT noted, however, that severe weather is beyond airlines’ control and may require flight times to be changed or services to be cancelled for safety reasons.
Passengers were therefore urged to monitor announcements from airlines and airports closely and make travel plans in advance to minimise disruption and inconvenience during the period of persistent rain.
