Rayong road closed after floodwater undermines Khao Chik Bridge

Authorities have closed a road in Rayong after fast-flowing floodwater undermined the approach to Khao Chik Bridge, causing part of the road to collapse and leaving a red pickup truck nose-down in a large hole.

The incident was reported at Khao Chik Bridge in Krasae Bon subdistrict, Klaeng district, on Tuesday morning (September 29, 2026).

At 6.24am, Facebook user Thanawat Wut Sommat posted photographs and a warning about the collapse. Images showed the front of the pickup deeply lodged in the damaged section of road, while the rear of the vehicle was raised almost vertically.

Floodwater believed to have eroded ground beneath road

Initial reports attributed the collapse to strong water currents eroding soil and material beneath the road and bridge structure following prolonged flooding and heavy run-off.

The flowing water was believed to have created a cavity beneath the road surface that was not visible from above. When the road surface lost sufficient support, part of the structure gave way as the pickup travelled across it.

The precise cause and extent of the structural damage will require assessment by the relevant authorities.

Road closed to all vehicles

Local authorities in Krasae Bon, together with rescue workers and other officials, have cordoned off the damaged section and installed traffic barriers.

All vehicles have been prohibited from using the route through Wat Khao Wang Sai towards Khao Chik, as officials remain concerned that surrounding sections could also be unstable.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes until inspections and repairs are completed.
