Bangkok and surrounding areas face 60% thundershower coverage on October 1–2, while boat operators are warned of waves above 2 metres in thundershowers.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warned on October 1, 2026, that thundershowers, gusty winds and isolated heavy rain are expected across upper Thailand during October 4–7.

The October 4–7 weather conditions are forecast to affect the North and Northeast first, before extending to the Central region, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, and the East. The TMD urged residents in these regions to beware of thundershowers and strong gusts.

Bangkok and Andaman coast face 60% thundershower coverage

Bangkok and surrounding areas and southern Thailand’s west coast are each forecast to have thundershowers covering 60% of their areas during the 24 hours from 6pm on October 1 to 6pm on October 2, Thai time.

Thundershowers are expected in parts of Thailand during October 1–2 as a weak south-westerly monsoon covers the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, according to the TMD. Southerly and south-easterly winds are also prevailing over the Gulf, and residents nationwide have been advised to remain alert to hazards associated with thundershowers.

Thailand’s October 1–2 regional forecast

The TMD’s regional forecast for the 24-hour period ending at 6pm on October 2 puts thundershower coverage at 30–60%, with temperatures, winds and sea conditions varying by region.

North: Thundershowers are forecast over 30% of the region during October 1–2, mainly in Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun. The TMD expects minimum temperatures of 22–26°C and maximum temperatures of 31–36°C, with south-westerly winds of 10–20km/h.

Northeast: The TMD forecasts thundershowers over 30% of the region during October 1–2, mainly in Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani. Minimum temperatures will be 23–25°C and maximum temperatures 34–35°C, with westerly winds of 10–20km/h.

Central region: Thundershowers are expected over 30% of the region during October 1–2, mainly in Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Lop Buri and Saraburi. The TMD forecasts minimum temperatures of 24–26°C and maximum temperatures of 34–36°C, with southerly winds of 10–20km/h.

East: The TMD expects thundershowers over 40% of the region during October 1–2, mainly in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat. Minimum temperatures will be 24–26°C and maximum temperatures 32–34°C, with southerly winds of 15–30km/h. Waves will be about 1 metre high, exceeding 2 metres in thundershowers.

South, east coast: Thundershowers are forecast over 40% of the region during October 1–2, mainly in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla and Yala. The TMD expects minimum temperatures of 23–24°C and maximum temperatures of 32–35°C, with south-easterly winds of 15–30km/h. Waves will be about 1 metre high, rising above 2 metres in thundershowers.

South, west coast: The TMD forecasts thundershowers over 60% of the region during October 1–2, mainly in Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun. Minimum temperatures will be 23–24°C and maximum temperatures 32–35°C.

Along the southern west coast during October 1–2, the TMD forecasts south-westerly winds of 15–35km/h from Phang Nga northwards, with waves of 1–2 metres and above 2 metres in thundershowers. From Phuket southwards, south-westerly winds will reach 15–30km/h, with waves of about 1 metre and above 2 metres in thundershowers.

Bangkok and surrounding areas: Thundershowers are forecast over 60% of the metropolitan area during October 1–2, according to the TMD. Minimum temperatures will be 25–26°C and maximum temperatures 34–35°C, with southerly winds of 10–20km/h.

Andaman and Gulf boat operators warned to avoid thundershowers

The TMD warned boat operators in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand to avoid sailing through thundershowers, where waves can exceed 2 metres. The upper Andaman Sea is forecast to have waves of 1–2 metres outside areas with thundershowers during October 1–2.

The TMD also advised boat operators in both seas to navigate cautiously and avoid sailing through thundershowers during the October 4–7 weather spell.
