Shine Bunnag leads flood relief at 3 Bangkok sites on Oct 3

Nation Foundation teams reached elderly Bangkok flood victims by boat as tenants worried that renting their homes could rule them out of compensation.

  • On October 3, the Nation Foundation delivered food and essential supplies to flood-affected residents in Bangkok.
  • The aid was distributed at three specific sites: the Kheha Thani 4 housing estate, communities in Khlong Chan, and the Rom Klao housing estate.
  • Donated items included cooked meals, water, dried food, medicine, and cleaning equipment for post-flood recovery.
  • The foundation used boats to reach heavily flooded areas like Rom Klao, delivering supplies directly to elderly residents trapped in their homes.

The Nation Foundation, led by chairman Shine Bunnag, delivered food and essential supplies to flood-hit residents at three locations in Bangkok on October 3, 2026, as some tenants voiced fears that living in rented homes could leave them without compensation.

Shine, who also serves as chairman of the executive committee and chief executive officer of Nation Group, was joined by Baakbun Boonlert, vice chairman of the group’s executive committee, along with Nation executives, news presenters and employees.

The “Nation Pan Namjai” initiative brought together the foundation, Nation’s three-editor team and supporters. Partners and members of the public donated freshly cooked meals, drinking water, snacks, rice, dried food, household supplies, medicines, cleaning equipment and other necessities through the foundation.

Kheha Thani 4 residents wade out for food and work

The Nation Foundation convoy’s first stop was Kheha Thani 4 housing estate in the Soi Rat Phatthana area of Ramkhamhaeng Road. The community, home to more than 3,000 people, was flooded throughout, forcing many residents to wade through water to get to work or buy food.

Some Kheha Thani 4 residents broke down in tears while describing their living conditions to the visiting team and thanking the Nation Foundation for its assistance.

Khlong Chan aid focuses on recovery after flooding

Supplies for post-flood recovery were a priority at Ban Bang Kapi School, the Nation Foundation convoy’s second stop, where donations were handed over for flood-hit residents of Khlong Chan flats and nearby communities. Vehicles from Thai Parcel Public Company Limited, or TP Logistics, transported the goods to the school.

Shine said the Nation Foundation’s mission was to pass donors’ support on to flood victims, while stressing that solutions needed to address the causes of flooding rather than only its aftermath. He highlighted the importance of government warnings and said the crisis showed that Thai people did not abandon one another.

Boats bring supplies to elderly Rom Klao residents

The Nation Foundation used boats to deliver ready-to-eat meals and relief bags to elderly residents in Rom Klao housing estate in Lat Krabang, the final stop on the mission.

Floodwater at Rom Klao remained 60–70 centimetres deep during the visit, leaving residents dependent on boats or wading through water that had begun to turn dark and foul. The Nation Foundation delivered some supplies to an evacuation centre and loaded others onto boats for distribution to households.

Former deputy interior minister Theerarat Samrejvanich, a Lat Krabang local, worked with the Nation Foundation to guide the team into some of the worst-hit areas. Shine and the team distributed relief bags, boxed meals and rice dishes along the boat route.

Ready-to-eat food was particularly needed in Rom Klao because many households included elderly people who found it difficult to wade out to collect meals. The Nation team also entered areas where assistance had been limited, including Soi 17.

Many elderly residents in Rom Klao’s Soi 17 were staying on the second floor of their homes, waiting for eggs and other food. Some lowered baskets to collect supplies because they could not manage the floodwater below.

Ratchanok Channoppharat, who lives near the far end of Rom Klao’s Soi 17, cried when the Nation Foundation team arrived, saying earlier assistance had not reached her part of the community.

Ratchanok said residents had repeatedly pooled money to go out and buy supplies themselves. With her home and vehicle damaged, she said she was deeply stressed and wanted the relevant authorities to provide help so residents could resume earning a living.

Shine offered encouragement to Rom Klao residents, many of whom remained in good spirits, while acknowledging that the team might not be able to reach every lane. He welcomed the continuing support from Thai people.

Tenants fear missing out on flood compensation

Suda Phadungwatthana, a tenant in Kheha Thani, said she was deeply worried that renting her home could prevent her from receiving compensation.

Residents in both Kheha Thani and Rom Klao showed the Nation team damage caused by the high floodwater and described their distress, particularly over compensation.

Suda said she and her husband, both elderly, had moved to Kheha Thani only three months earlier and borrowed 4,000–5,000 baht to open a small shop. Their goods had all been damaged by the flooding.

Suda said she had never experienced anything like the disaster and did not know where she would find money to restart the business. Despite the losses, she remained determined to carry on because she was still alive.

“People do not have the same amount of money. I cannot earn even 4,000–5,000 baht in a whole month,” Suda said.

Sayan Suchakun also feared missing out on compensation because her home was rented, even though she had lived there for 40 years.
