The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has forecast heavy rain in 17 central and southern provinces on October 28, 2026. The department warned that persistent rain could cause flash floods and runoff in the South, while thunderstorms and strong gusts remain a threat across upper Thailand, particularly the Central region.
TMD warning No. 10 (282/2026), issued at 5am Thai time, remains in effect through October 28.
Khaosod’s report on the department’s October 28 forecast identifies five provinces in the Central region and 12 in the South where heavy rain is expected:
Central region: Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram.
South: Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi and Trang.
Continued rain, with isolated heavy downpours, is forecast across southern Thailand. TMD warned that accumulated rainfall could trigger flash floods and runoff, particularly along waterways near foothills and in low-lying areas, where water could collect and cause prolonged flooding.
Residents in flood-prone areas should prepare for further rainfall. People in communities already affected by flooding should monitor water levels and follow instructions from local authorities.
Upper Thailand, especially the Central region, will continue to experience thunderstorms, strong gusts and isolated heavy rain, according to TMD. Residents should avoid open spaces, sheltering beneath large trees and areas near unsecured advertising billboards during storms.
TMD attributed the unsettled conditions to a high-pressure system, or cold air mass, from China covering upper Thailand and the South China Sea. The system is bringing easterly winds across Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, while a low-pressure area lies over the Andaman Sea.
Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand could exceed two metres in areas experiencing thunderstorms, TMD warned. Boat operators should check their routes, navigate cautiously and avoid sailing through storms.
TMD also urged residents to plan daily activities and journeys carefully and continue monitoring official weather announcements. Updates are available through the department’s website and its 24-hour telephone services on 02-399-4012–13 and 1182.
The department is scheduled to issue its next warning at 5pm Thai time on October 28.
