Udon Thani horticultural expo unveils three main attractions
Udon Thani’s horticultural expo runs from November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027, featuring international gardens, royal exhibitions and Isan culture.
International gardens, royal exhibitions and Isan cultural activities will be among the main attractions at the Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo 2026, which will run for 134 days from November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027.
Organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives through the Department of Agriculture, the event will occupy more than 164.8 hectares at Nong Dae Wetland in Udon Thani. Recognised by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH), it will be the first international horticultural expo of its kind held in Thailand’s Northeast.
The expo’s theme, “Diversity of Life: Connecting People, Water and Plants for Sustainable Living”, explores the relationship between people, nature and the environment. It will bring together plants, culture, traditional knowledge, technology and horticultural innovation from Thailand and other countries, alongside learning opportunities on sustainable agricultural development and environmental conservation.
Beyond flowers and landscaped gardens, organisers envisage a celebration of the diversity of life, with opportunities for visitors to explore, learn and take part in activities connecting people with nature.
The event aims to showcase Thailand’s horticulture, biodiversity and agricultural innovation internationally while encouraging travel to the Northeast. It is also intended to create economic opportunities for farmers, community enterprises, tourism operators, hotels, restaurants and other service businesses in Udon Thani and neighbouring provinces.
For visitors planning a trip towards the end of the year, the programme offers three main highlights designed to appeal to plant enthusiasts, photographers, cultural travellers, families, young people and those interested in agricultural technology.
International gardens and Thailand’s plant diversity
The international gardens will showcase plants, landscape architecture, ways of life and cultures from more than 20 countries, alongside displays by leading Thai organisations.
A rotating programme of educational exhibitions will cover horticulture, medicinal herbs, flowering and ornamental plants, orchids, lotuses and wetland plants, food crops, commercial crops, ecosystems and carbon-credit gardens.
Visitors will be able to explore wetland ecosystems and biodiversity, watch horticultural competitions and discover innovations ranging from cultivation and water management to processing agricultural produce and increasing its value sustainably.
Royal exhibitions and 134 years of Udon Thani
The royal tribute exhibition “Phon Phra Khun Tha Raksa” will present royal contributions to water management, agriculture, natural resource conservation and improvements in quality of life.
It will trace initiatives begun during the reign of King Rama IX and their continuation, preservation and development under King Rama X.
Visitors will also be able to pay their respects to “Phuttha Phat Borom Suk”, a sculpture of Phra Si Ariya Metteyya created by National Artist Pat Boonyarungka.
Another exhibition, “134 years of stories: Udon Thani today”, will take visitors through the city’s history, people, communities, ways of life and culture. It connects 134 years of Udon Thani’s development with the expo’s 134 days of welcoming visitors from around the world.
Isan culture and activities throughout the expo
The Isan Village will present the Northeast’s living culture through local ways of life, art, music, food, handicrafts and traditional knowledge.
More than 200 performances will rotate throughout the event, featuring artists, communities, young people and master artisans. International academic forums will provide further opportunities to exchange knowledge.
Hands-on activities for visitors of all ages will range from growing plants, creating art from natural materials and making handicrafts to food-related activities and science. The programme will also explore environmental issues, the circular economy, carbon reduction and the efficient use of resources.
Festivals, performances and special activities will change throughout the expo and with the seasons, offering different experiences on return visits.
Organisers see the expo as more than a plant exhibition. It is intended to demonstrate Thailand’s strengths in agriculture, tourism, culture and sustainable development while raising the international profile of Udon Thani and neighbouring provinces as travel destinations.
