Toyota Motor Corporation has released the GR KART at a suggested retail price of 385,000 yen.
Intended for children and adults, the entry-level racing model reflects the company’s aim of widening participation in motorsport and enabling people to experience the pleasure of driving from an early age.
Adjustments to the steering wheel and pedals allow the kart to accommodate drivers from 135 to 185 centimetres tall.
It measures 182 centimetres in length, 116 centimetres in width and 67 centimetres in height.
The GR KART can be loaded into Toyota’s Noah and Voxy minivans without being taken apart.
It may also be kept upright when stored.
No driving licence is required to use the model at kart circuits around the country, although it cannot be driven on public roads.
Company officials on Thursday described it as the world’s first racing kart produced by an automaker.
