Japanese electronics maker Sharp begins taking AI server orders
Sharp forecasts Japan’s AI server market will reach 7 trillion yen in fiscal 2035, with companies and local authorities among the intended buyers.
- Sharp began accepting orders for its new AI servers on September 15, targeting Japanese companies and local governments.
- The servers are built by parent company Hon Hai (Foxconn) and are based on Nvidia's advanced AI platform.
- Sharp will be responsible for the post-sale operation and maintenance of the servers and has set a domestic sales target of 250 billion yen for fiscal 2030.
- The company is also considering offering the servers outside of Japan in the future.
Japan’s market for artificial intelligence (AI) servers could grow from 900 billion yen in fiscal 2025 to 7 trillion yen in fiscal 2035, according to Sharp Corporation.
The Japanese company has set a domestic AI server sales target of 250 billion yen for fiscal 2030, the year ending in March 2031.
Customers could begin placing orders on Tuesday (September 15).
The intended buyers are companies and local governments in Japan seeking to run AI models independently while safeguarding their data.
Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., the Taiwanese contract electronics manufacturer of which Sharp is a unit, will build the equipment.
Nvidia Corporation’s most advanced AI server platform forms the technical foundation, while post-sale operation and maintenance will be Sharp’s responsibility.
The company is considering offering the servers outside Japan.
It is also studying whether the business could be integrated with existing home appliance operations.
