Sales of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s new Pajero in Thailand have exceeded 1,500 vehicles since the October 19 launch, while about 5,500 have been pre-ordered in Japan before its December 17 release.
Bookings in Japan opened in October and have already surpassed Mitsubishi’s target of 4,000 sales for the current financial year.
The company announced the Japanese launch on Thursday (October 29), with prices from 6,193,000 yen. It will be the first new Pajero model offered in Japan in seven years.
“We have improved our original technologies,” Mitsubishi Motors president Keisuke Kishiura said.
“We aim to establish the Pajero's position (in the increasingly competitive SUV market).”
To reach a broad range of customers, Mitsubishi will give each of the two Japanese versions two trim levels. One version prioritises off-road driving, while the other emphasises luxury.
The model was unveiled globally in September, and its Australian launch is scheduled for later this year.
