The Royal Thai Embassy in Paris issues fresh advisory urging citizens to avoid rally zones as major unions and Yellow Vests target the cost-of-living crisis.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Paris has issued a fresh travel advisory urging Thai citizens across France to prepare for widespread transport disruptions and potential safety risks, as major trade unions and the Yellow Vests (Gilets Jaunes) movement launch coordinated nationwide strikes and protests.
In its fifth official warning, the embassy advised Thai nationals residing in or travelling through France to exercise heightened caution on Thursday, 5 November, and Saturday, 7 November, when widespread industrial action is expected to paralise public transport networks, schools, and civic services.
The mobilisation stems from a joint push by five major French trade unions—CFDT, CGT, FO, UNSA, and FSU—to pressure the government over rising cost-of-living pressures, stagnant minimum wages, and public sector funding cuts.
Severe travel disruptions are expected across the country.
National railway operator SNCF faces widespread walkouts, with suburban RER rail lines in the Île-de-France region (particularly Line D), regional TER trains, and intercity services anticipating significant delays and service cancellations.
Air travel, postal services, and municipal operations are also expected to see reduced capacity.
In Paris, trade unions initially proposed a march route connecting Place de la Bastille to Place de la Concorde between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM on Thursday, 5 November.
However, Krungthep Turakij reporter Panyalak Sriburin reported that the Paris Police Prefecture (Préfecture de Police) rejected the planned route, proposing an alternative march between Place de la République and Place de la Nation due to security concerns.
Regional demonstrations on Thursday, 5 November, are scheduled across several major cities:
Nantes: 10:00 AM, starting from Miroir d'Eau
Lyon: 10:30 AM, near Manufacture des Tabacs
Bordeaux: 1:00 PM, beginning at Place de la République and proceeding via Gambetta, Allées de Tourny, and Place de la Bourse to Place de la Victoire
Rennes: 1:00 PM, starting at Place de Bretagne
Strasbourg: 2:00 PM, starting at Place de la République
Toulouse: 2:00 PM, starting at Place Saint-Cyprien
Lille: 2:30 PM, starting at Porte de Paris
The disruption is expected to continue into the weekend as the Yellow Vests movement launches its “Acte IV” campaign under the slogan “Égalité réelle” (Real Equality) on Saturday, 7 November, with primary gatherings targeted around Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Élysées in Paris, alongside rallies in Marseille, Grenoble, and other regional centres.
The Thai embassy has advised its citizens to avoid protest corridors, monitor live transit updates via SNCF Connect and Transilien platforms, and plan alternative routes.
Thai nationals requiring urgent assistance can contact the embassy's 24-hour emergency hotline at +33 6 46 71 96 94.
