A statement from Nation Multimedia Group staff

Regarding the pledge that Nation Multimedia Group (NMG) editorial staff made to the public on January 14 - that a good media requires good shareholders - and our pledge to perform our work in an honest and fair manner while maintaining our professionalism

The past weeks have shown moves by those calling themselves “investors” to take over NMG through the buying of shares and the situation has raised more suspicion.
The “money game” is relentless and includes activities that, from no matter which standpoint, demonstrate a lack of goodwill on the part of the share buyers.
There’re no signs that the moves will be constructive to media work in order to benefit society. All these signs reflect a threat to our long-cherished professional code of conduct that we have upheld for over four decades.
The situation is also likely to escalate and lead to a threat against the spirit of free media as more money is being used to pursue the goal of domination that is not right under the rules and regulations.
It is inevitable that we have to step forward to stand shoulder to shoulder again in order to protect what we have built together under this professional pledge in order to thwart money groups from taking over and using us as a base to seek unwarranted benefits.
This is our unwavering stance.
