Otomotif Group business manager Diesta Octaviansyah said the Otobursa Tumplek Blek is Indonesia’s largest auto parts and spare parts exhibition.
“It could even be the largest of its kind in Asean,” he said, adding that more than 100,000 visitors came for the show, up from 63,000 last year. The two-day event was held at the Gelora Bung Karno East Plaza in Jakarta.
The show was divided into different zones, with major companies like Toyota, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and NHK as well as a large number of smaller companies taking part along with used auto parts dealers who are highly popular in Indonesia. There were also additional attractions featured such as off-roading, a stunt show, drift show, vintage car show, customised car show and safety driving.
In fact, the major market that the show caters to is the motorcycle parts and accessories. Indonesia is the world’s third-largest motorcycle market after China and India , with sales of 9 million units last year.
The Indonesian auto parts market is valued at $350 million per year and it is growing along with the demand for automobiles.
During this trip I have also had a chance to visit the Toyota production center in Indonesia , located north of Jakarta .
“Presently the plant has a production capacity of 110,000 units per year and we have invested an additional 1.7 trillion rupiahs in order to double the capacity,” he said.
The plant produces the Innova MPV and Fortuner SUV powered by Euro 2 engines without commonrail technology. Passenger cars and pickup trucks are mostly imported from Thailand , but they are the previous model with the old engine since the fuel in Indonesia is still Euro 2 unlike Thailand ’s Euro 3.
It is possible that Toyota will raise production at this plant to 500,000 units per year in the near future. Combined with the Daihatsu plant, which could have production raised to 400,000 units per year, Toyota ’s total production in this country could reach 1 million units in the next 5-7 years.
