Songklanagarind Hospital goes in for Nutanix

Songklanagarind Hospital, a leading medical services provider for 14 provinces in the South, has chosen Nutanix for enabling consultation and treatment anytime, anywhere.

Nutanix’s Virtual Computing Platform fulfils the virtualisation project via VMware solutions.
Nutanix is a web-scale converged infrastructure company.
Hospital staff can perform their tasks as the “bring your own device” strategy begins to take shape and positively impact the running of the hospital.
Founded in 1982, Songklanagarind is part of Prince of Songkla University. As a medical centre and medical school, it also serves as a research and development educational hub for health science communities. With 853 beds and 700 full-time physicians, it can tend to 3,500 patients per day.
Theerasan Kiriratnikorm, deputy dean for medical informatics, said yesterday that the hospital has embraced the BYOD concept to help with the medical services challenges facing its teams.

Consultations, treatment from anywhere at any time
As it is the medical hub in the southern region providing treatment and healthcare to people in the territory and also a leading medical school and R&D centre for those in the health sciences area, it is important to deploy an information technology solution that allows the hospital to give consultations and treatment from anywhere at any time.
“All members of the team are fully equipped with mobile devices. What was missing was granting them access to the hospital’s self-developed intranet portal called the Hospital Information System,” he said.
Komane Ruangrit, a computer specialist, said the hospital is testing the ‘Zero Client’ strategy with the aim to extend virtualised operations to other teams in the hospital.
Thawipong Anotaisinthawee, manager of Nutanix (Thailand), said BYOD has been gaining acceptance and popularity as a workplace concept as a result of always-on and always-accessible demands.
“Nutanix is very pleased that our technology has further enhanced the way the hospital runs its services and helps to improve medical services and standards in the process,” he said.
